Welcome everyone for attending and introduced the current GPCA Board officers. THANK YOU for all your hard work and dedication for the past two years.
• President: Phil Dampf – lives on Sarasota for 2 years with his wife, Megan.
• Vice President: Nicole Phillips – grew up in Gulf Park on Sarasota and purchased her family home where she lives with her two children.
• Treasurer: Jane Magee – moved to Gulf Park in 1999. She lives on Sarasota with her husband, David, and two boys.
• Secretary: Francie Brodman – moved to Gulf Park in July 1993. She lives on Gulf Park with her husband, Jay, after raising their three children here.
2. Introduction of Gulf Park Civic Association Board of Governor members: (By Phil Dampf)
THANK YOU for all your work and dedication this year.
Jay Brodman (City/County Liaison), Megan Dampf, Dina Kramer, John Wendelken, Leona Porteous, Mark Barber, Tami Whitson, Alison Ross, Wilma Branner, and Zach LeVasseur.
3. Budget and Neighborhood Dues Report: (By Jane Magee)
114 of 350 residents have paid the 2019 dues as of January 2019. About 32% of the residents have paid the 2019 dues. The final reminder cards will be mailed to each resident that hasn’t paid their dues as of the Annual Meeting shortly.
It was asked if there is anything additional, short of calling or knocking on doors, to increase and/or incentivize residents to pay the $30 dues each year. We are open to suggestions.
The current process is as follows: The first notice is a flyer hand-delivered to each of the 350 homes in our subdivision around October. A second notice is posted on the GulfPark.net website, the Gulf Park Neighborhood Facebook page, and on Nextdoor to Gulf Park residents who have joined that site around December. The final notice is a postcard mailed to any resident that hasn’t paid as of the Annual Meeting around February.
4. Purpose of dues: (By Jane Mcgee)
a. Street Lights
b. Front Entrance Maintenance
c. Administrative costs
Gulf Park Dues pay for 24 of the 80 street lights in Gulf Park. Approximately 1/3 of the street lights. Other subdivisions do pay for their street lights and many at a much higher rate.
5. Street Resurfacing completed for the front portion of Gulf Park Subdivision. (By Jay Brodman)
The resurfacing for the front section of Gulf Park Subdivision has been completed. We will continue to be in contact with the county to push for the back section to be paved also. The item of a missing crosswalk not repainted was brought to the board’s attention and will be followed up on. A missing street sign at Panama and Sanders was replaced.
6. A discussion of options for dealing with homeowners who are not maintaining their property was held. Currently, a letter is sent to the homeowner and occupant of the home if different notifying them of the “dirty lot” or “abandoned vehicle” situation. GPCA can only hope the homeowner to remedies the situation since they have no power to require the homeowner to fix the problem. Hopefully, we can encourage pride in our neighborhood in keeping our yards and homes in good repair. Nothing looks worse from the curb than letting the yard grow over a foot high, seeing dilapidated roofs, overgrown bushes, cars parked on the lawn, cluttered front porches and poor home maintenance. Homes with high curb appeal command higher prices and take less time to sell. If nothing is done by the homeowner, we send a copy of the letter to the county and ask them to check the situation for correction.
New Business:
1. The recent flooding in the Gulf Park Subdivision area is prompting the board to offer help to anyone in the subdivision that may be effected. Please notify the Association of any residents needing assistance that you may become aware of.
2. Election of New Board: Two Year Position
GPCA Bylaws:
XI. (1) The election of officers shall be held annually at the January General Meeting.
(2) No officer may be elected to the same office consecutively but may again be elected to the same office after an interval of one year.
(3) To be a duly constituted executive officer, the person must receive a majority of the votes of those present at the annual election meeting.
(4) The elected officers will take office at the end of the January General Meeting.
(5) In the event that a member of the Board of Governors is unable to fulfill their term of office, the remaining members of the Board of Governors shall elect a person to fulfill the rest of the term.
a. President NO VOLUNTEER AT THIS TIME
b. Vice President NO VOLUNTEER AT THIS TIME
c. Treasurer – John Wendelken will replace Jane Mcgee
d. Recording Secretary NO VOLUNTEER AT THIS TIME
We still need to find volunteers for President, Vice President, and Recording Secretary. The positions usually only take about 6 hours of your time each year.
e. Board of Governors: Two Year Position (3 Officers and 7 Governors)
1. Immediate Past President – Phil Dampf (first-year 2019)
2. Volunteer – Francie Brodman will replace Megan Dampf as Media Coordinator. (first-year 2019)
3. Dina Kramer, second-year term 2019
4. Leona Porteous, second-year term 2019
5. Mark Barber, second-year term 2019
6. Tami Whitson, second-year term 2019
7. Wilma Branner, second-year term 2019
Zach LeVasseur and his family have moved from Gulf Park and we want to thank him for his service.
3. An inquiry was made about getting a community price for mosquito control. The discount would give residents who wish to use the service a reduced price for mosquito control. A survey will be added to our media pages on Facebook and Nextdoor to see if other residents can use this service.
4. Lori and Tracie from the Gulf Park Recreation Association (the pool) presented an update of the pool news (http://gulfparkrecreation.org/ and Gulf Park Recreation Association on Facebook) The pool property was purchased and leased back to the Gulf Park Recreation Association by a benevolent buyer and is now debt free. GPRA completed tree removal and roof repair, but the flooding has interrupted the scheduled repairs on the tennis court and pool. GPRA want to assure us that the work will get done and thanked us for your patience! The upper tennis court is scheduled to have the fencing repaired and court lines repainted. GPRA will be adding pickleball court lines as well. GPRA has plans to survey their members and neighbors on what to do with the lower courts that are not in use. Membership is $290 for first-time members and $390 for renewing members. GPRA will also introduce a new 2-week trial membership for $50 for neighbors who want to check it out before committing to a membership.
5. Gulf Park Recreation Association (the pool) gave a door prize gift basket. The name drawn from those attending was Wilma Brenner. Congratulations!
